FAQs
What should I expect at my appointment?
A clinical history assessment will be taken from you, on your ear health, past and present. An examination will be carried out to check for infection and determine the type and depth of wax build up you have. We will then discuss the method of wax removal which is right for you, and you will sign a consent form prior to the treatment.
How long does the procedure take?
Depending on what is required, please allow 30 minutes for your appointment, to allow for both the assessment and the treatment. It is anticipated that your appointment should not last more than this length of time in most circumstances.
Does the procedure hurt?
Most patients find the procedure comfortable enough to tolerate easily and feel immediate relief once the clogged wax has passed. The procedure can be noisy, but it is safe and gentle. Some people may find the procedure uncomfortable due to the position of the wax in the canal therefore may experience sensitive ear canals for a day or two if a large amount of wax is removed, but this feeling is transient. The main thing is to keep the ears dry post treatment, but don’t worry, after care advice will be given during your appointment.
How often will I need to have this done?
There are no fixed time frames for treatment, it is, as and when the wax builds up and you feel you need to visit us for clinical assessment. Some people need this twice yearly and others less frequently.
What is the cost?
The cost for ear examination and ear wax removal is £60.00 regardless of one ear or two. The same applies for removal of foreign body.
If it is deemed, you do not need ear wax removal following your examination you will only pay an examination charge of £20.00
For all home visits an additional charge of £10 will be added.
What if I need to cancel?
If you need to cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice of your appointment you will need to pay 50% of the £60.00 ear examination/wax removal charge and 50% of the £10.00 travel charge if it is a home appointment.
How can I pay?
You can pay by cash, card or bank transfer.
