Ear Wax Removal
Good hearing is important as it’s our main sense for communicating and providing awareness of our surroundings.
Ear Wax Removal Methods
Microsuction
Microsuction, the ‘gold standard’ for wax removal as recommended by the National Institute of Health & Care Excellence (NICE) is the safest way to remove ear wax. This is a low suction probe with a specialist tip to gently withdraw in a vacuum like manner, wax from the ear canal. This is particularly useful when traditional irrigation isn’t possible due to ear drum perforations or grommets.
Irrigation
The irrigation method is water, warmed to body temperature that gently removes the wax by using a controlled, low pressure water jet angled towards the ear canal wall. Please note this is different from the old method of ear syringing which has been deemed unsafe by NICE.
Manual Removal
Manual removal of wax can be performed using a variety of sterile single use tools to clear stubborn and difficult blockages or foreign bodies safely.
Which method Is For ME?
The method of wax removal will be determined by what is deemed suitable for you following your ear examination.
The main thing you need to do prior to your appointment is use medical grade olive oil ear drops two-three times a day for a few days. Should you not do this wax removal may be more difficult but certainly, not impossible.
We have Earol ® onsite (clinically proven olive oil spray) which will be sufficient enough to carry out the procedure on the day.

Important Note
Please do not try and remove ear wax or foreign bodies yourself, this can potentially cause ear damage, infection and more seriously hearing loss.
Using cotton buds, bobby pins/hair grips and other things in your ear canal can push the wax further down into the canal causing more problems and damage, thus exacerbating the problem.
